I have kept myself busy for this Labor day weekend; however, I haven’t done any actual work. Saturday I went to Smyrna’s fifth annual Hops and Barley Beer Tasting with Will and Zac. This was my second year to attend the festival. The even was a lot of fun but the heat made it a difficult to really enjoy it. Last year we discovered an amazing ice cream and cafe called Italio’s and made a point to visit again this year. I took a few photos but ended up drinking more beer than taking pictures.Will purchased a three day pass to Dragoncon earlier this year and decided to drag me along Sunday night. I decided to go to take some pictures and enjoy the normal Dragoncon people watching. There were a few impressive costumes but I wasn’t able to snap photos of all of them. We met up with a few friends so I had trouble indulging my photography habits while keeping track of where everyone was headed.
I didn’t purchase a pass but I managed to attend a few events thanks to friends. The Mad Scientist Ball was a lot of fun, ArcAttack performed numerous tracks. I purchased a tshirt from ArcAttack but managed to loose it during the Mindless Self Indulgence performance. We ended up leaving to get something to eat and decided to have Waffle House since it was one of the few things open. It was a fun and tiring weekend but now I need to prepare for next week as I push to complete a lot of the remaining wedding tasks.

I really enjoy the number of ways that Google provides employees to show their appreciation to other Googlers. Earlier this week I came into work and noticed a gnome sitting on my desk. I was a little confused and questioned why it had migrated desks. I was instructed to check out the url inscribed on the hat and upon visiting I learned that the gnome is a traveling appreciation award which had been passed onto me. There are a few of them floating around the company, it’s rather interesting. You can see the current location of each gnome and the reason each person received the gnome. I already have plans of where it will visit next.

We celebrated Sean’s birthday last night and I finally got back into my photo habits. We started at D&B but left for Sidelines after everyone was tired of paying $7.50+ for shots and $5.00+ for beers. Me and Jenna brought a lot of tickets saved from a previous visit and I won a few hundred more while there. We searched the prizes for something interesting but eventually gave up and handed our 3,000+ remaining credits to a family with a small child. After a couple of hours at Sidelines we went back to Sean’s to continue drinking and hanging out. The photos are online at pictures/20080823_SeansBday for everyone to view.
